The fifth: Sleep and hormone- relationship between orexin and drowsiness-
In this series, we teach you the tips for a good night's sleep.
Last month I touched on the mechanism of sleep and awakening.
Melatonin works on sleep and wake rhythms
Fish and chickens also have a "third eye" that feels light
Models include "Chakra" in integrative medicine, the science fiction comic "The Three-Eyed One", and Ultraseven's beam lamp.
And so on.
Next, let's talk about the hormonal mechanism for sleep this month.
- table of contents -
1. Eating and sleeping Affecting orexin-hormones related to sleep and arousal-
You may have become sleepy after eating a lot.
On the other hand, if you get hungry or if you use your body clock in the morning, your eyes will be refreshed.
Metabolic system of glycemic fluctuation
Many mechanisms are involved.
Hormone "orexin" that is closely related to sleep
With the development of medical research, the hormone "orexin" secreted from the hypothalamus has been discovered.
The name comes from the Greek word (orexis), which means appetite.
After that, it turned out to play an important role in the work of sleep and awakening.
Orexin issues a wide range of commands as shown in the figure.
Then, the organization that received the command (receptor) awakens crisply and does various tasks properly.
So to speak, it may be said that they are willing to do good deeds for the sake of the world.
Because it means "I donate" in Japanese.
2. To awakening with high hunger and feelings-Three elements that promote awakening-
There are three major factors that activate the orexin.
Stimulation of hunger in nutritional status
Stimulation that it was morning with the body clock
Stimulation that feelings were high in the psychological state
When these stimuli are received, orexin secretion increases and the state of arousal is maintained.
In other words, the presence of orexin allows the brain to wake up and be active .
On the other hand, if the action is weak, you will not be able to maintain your wakefulness and will fall asleep.
There is also a related illness called narcolepsy that causes you to fall asleep suddenly.
3. Good sleep when receptor block-Mechanism of sleeping pills-
In order for orexin to work, it must bind to a site called the orexin receptor.
This mechanism is used to block the orexin receptor in advance with a drug.
Then, it suppresses the increased wakefulness and brings sleep.
Suvorexant is an orexin receptor antagonist and is prescribed under the name "Versomura".
Belsomra means "beautiful sleep" and is derived from belle (beautiful) + som (sleep) .
In French, sleep is called sommeil and sleep is called sommeiller.
Two types of sleeping pills with different mechanisms
Last time and this time, I outlined melatonin receptor agonists and orexin receptor antagonists , and summarized the important points below.
With a thorough understanding of these, it is possible to take medication if necessary.
4. Sleep well-Let's rejuvenate for tomorrow-What you can do before taking medicine-
The order in which you think about getting a good night's sleep is
① Regular lifestyle
② Maintaining an appropriate mental and physical condition by each person
③ Utilize "sound medicine" that uses music well
④ Drugs if necessary
Please refer to.
The proverb "Sleep and wait for good luck" is famous.
I pray that a good night's sleep will lead to a good life (every day, life, life).

Recommended music this time
Continuing from the last time, we will introduce healing music that activates the "pineal gland" and promotes melatonin production.
A gentle tone reaches the pineal gland and gives deep healing and sleep.
★ The next theme is "sleep and brain waves". Please look forward to it!
