Comfortable shamisen and charming songs lead you to a time of eterni

Amami's traditional culture, "Shima Uta," has been handed down from generation to generation through a mixture of lyrics and melodies. This special album, featuring the "Amami Citron Award" winner Shingo Maeyama, features shamisen (three-stringed Japanese banjo) and songs as well as natural sounds recorded on site.

Amami Island has been registered as a World Heritage Site and is known as the Galapagos of the East.

Blessed with rare flora and fauna, the island is rich in nature and traditional culture such as the Oshima pongee has been handed down to the present day.

Shingo Maeyama Profile

Born in 1983 in Naze, Amami Oshima.

At the age of 19, he was struck by a shima-uta song he happened to hear and entered the world of traditional music.

In 2005, he won the Newcomer's Prize of the Amami Minyo Grand Prize.

His CD "Hoshiyuru Shima Nu Uta" won the Grand Prize of the Amami Folk Song Awards. In 2011, at the 32nd Amami Min'yo Contest, he was awarded the Grand Prize, the first male singer in 10 years and the first male singer in the youth division to win the Grand Prize.

He has been active in Amami Oshima and has performed all over the country and the world while working as a welfare worker for the elderly at a local health care facility.

I grew up on Amami Oshima Island, which is rich in nature, and I continue to sing shima-uta while living there. This time, I recorded the shamisen and the song to the melody of the nature of Amami, a place I am very proud of. Amami's shima-uta. Since the distant past, our ancestors have continued to play this song and shamisen, no matter how harsh the times, and have never ceased to do so. I am proud of the fact that I was able to preserve the harmony that can only be created here. I hope that this rich nature and traditional culture will continue to live on forever. I would be very happy if such thoughts of mine could reach you in the form of sound.
